To Be Read has been founded on the principles of empathy, understanding and support for all – starting with our clients and network members. As such, it’s important to outline some of the ways in which we can work to make the To Be Read community a place where everyone feels included.
It’s not really possible to create a definitive lists of principles, terms or phrases that will make everyone feel seen, heard and respected. Nevertheless, we’ve created a basic code of conduct for To Be Read employees, network partners and clients to uphold, focused on promoting diversity, inclusivity and equity in everything we do as a company:
Code of Conduct
To Be Read CIC will not tolerate discrimination or abuse from or against its employees, clients or network members.
This includes but is not limited to: offensive language, images or actions in person or online directly or indirectly relating to background, race, ethnicity, nationality, age, ability, religious belief, neurotype, sexuality, gender identity, parental status, or financial situation. Remember that a point of view for you may be a point of survival for someone else.
Respect all members of our community. This includes referring to all individuals by their preferred names and pronouns, working to accommodate reasonable adjustments as much as possible, and being considerate of individual boundaries.
Make an effort to hold yourself accountable. Seek out answers, interrogate your biases and remember that everyone gets it wrong sometimes. It’s understandable to feel defensive or upset when being called out, but if you’re not in a headspace to meet people where they are, take steps to remove yourself from the situation and have some space.
Always treat individuals who make honest mistakes with grace, patience and understanding.
Public Association:
The whole point of To Be Read CIC is to work collaboratively. We refer, endorse and promote creatives, freelancers, events and businesses of all kinds. We don’t expect any of our partners or associates to censure themselves, but we do ask that:
